Specimen Collection Pack
The pack has the following necessary items for Sample Collection:
- 1 x dry swabs
- 1 x Label 1 x N95 Mask for the healthcare worker
- 1 x Surgical Mask the patient for self-isolation
- 2 x pairs of gloves for healthcare worker and patient
- Parafilm Urgent specimen packet
- Biohazardous sticker
- All the necessary documentation


Collection of the nasopharyngeal swab (NPS)
- Open a sterile dry swab at the plastic shaft
- Ask the patient to tilt his/her head back. Estimate the distance from the patientnose to the ear: This is how far the swab should be inserted
- Ask the patient to tilt his/her head back. Estimate the distance from the patientnose to the ear: This is how far the swab should be inserted
- Gently insert swab into the nostril and back (not up-wards) to the nasopharynx until a slight resistance is met
- Rotate swab 2-3 times and hold in place for 2-3 seconds
- If resistance is met remove and try another nostril
- Slowly withdraw swab and without touching it, put it into the container
Important additional information
We require a nasopharyngeal swab. The specimen must be refrigerated until collected.
In addition to the Neuberg Global Request Form, the attached NICD Documents must be completed.
The test being performed is for COVID-19 using the PCR based test methodology, by Roche Diagnostics.
